Personal statement stress : How did I handle it ?

15:43

Hi,
It has been a long time since I have been on here. I think this blog is more of a half term and holidays sort of thing , as I never have time to create posts but I am on instagram a lot! '@classynajma'. Moreover, I am in year 13 now and that means a bunch of stress because this is the last year of school we have until we all go our seperate ways.  I have already applied to university and I have received two unconditional offers - if put them as my firm and one conditional. I must admit it has been very stressful to get it done and to have it approved by a few of my teachers but the end result was great.
This post is going to be full of 3 top tips of how to handle stressful University applications. I just would like to say that all these tips might not work out for you and I apologise but from my persepctive and hopefully others , this was very useful for me . If this did not work for you as I said, I would try and look at other tips online like on UCAS ((this is where I applied ))

#1 Choose a course that you want to study: What are you passionate about ? or What subject do you really enjoy?

This is the time where you have all the control to pick a course you would like to study at university. Remember its your choice ! so if you feel like your'e being pressurized by your mum or dad to become a doctor just think financially. If you spend your time studying a degree that you don't enjoy then you'll have to owe the debt still and you can switch to another degree. However , it is very tricky to be stuck in these situations so make sure you make your choice righteously. I was feeling very anxious during the whole process of me choosing my course because I was interested in a lot of things and I wasn't sure what I liked specifically. I think doing your research works and helps you look into it through a students perspective sometimes and the sort of careers you can have with subjects you enjoy. I really wanted to study art and then I wanted to study graphic design and then I wanted to be part of a team that creates adverts and promotes products and that is when I found out that art and graphic design was involved which gave me a sound foundation of the marketing and advertising courses that I applied for! In the end , I feel a lot grateful for the choice , I have made and I am very excited for the future!

# 2 Open up a word document for your personal statement and write everything about you that is exciting e.g.( I have a brown belt in martial arts)

I think that listing all the things that interest you or writing a small paragraph about yourself can really help to start your personal statement and it can give you an idea of how to link yourself to your course. I found it quite difficult to list things about myself as I could only list a few. However, by making relations to other topics can give you a further insight to other things you are interested and it can also spark memories in your mind for when you achieved something. For example ( I really enjoyed playing basketball at school ) . The keyword is basketball , which could relate to you sparking your interest further through tv programmes such as the NBA which gave you deeper understanding in the sport. After listing all your interests and academia etc , you can start forming paragraphs! If you think its completely wrong - its fine! The first try is always very tricky , its just a matter of time and practice until you get your final result!

#3 Ask for Advice!
(Google Image)
If you're unsure of anything just make sure you get your friends, family or even your teachers to check the statement! They can always spot things you didnt even notice and they can give you advice on what to change or what to add . There criticisms might be harsh or great but either way , it can help you improve but dont take eveyones advice as you can get muddled up which is what I struggled with.

I hope this helped all beginners who are writing their statement at their moment

What university are you studying at? or What course would you like to study?

I hope this post helped
